<description>
The free demo now repairs the first five links of any type in a presentation.

It still repairs all image links in a presentation.

We've fixed a few bugs in the GoTo tool and improved its dialog box.

The GoTo tool is also now modeless in PowerPoint 2000 and up. This means that you can leave it on screen while you do other things if you wish.

<description>
We discovered a bug in PowerPoint 2007 that affects linked images. In order to make linked images work no matter what folder the PowerPoint file and images are in, FixLinks makes the links "pathless" ... in other words, the links point to just the filenames, no path.

When PowerPoint 2007 finds pathless links to files with spaces in the names, it fails to find the links. The links break. PowerPoint 2010 doesn't have this bug; neither do previous versions of PowerPoint ... just 2007.

One workaround is to rename your image files and replace spaces with underscore ( _ ) characters before linking them. A better solution is to let FixLinks do it for you. The 28 June version will do that, but not by default.

Image and other links break in PowerPoint 2007

In order to make links to files work no matter what folder the PowerPoint file and linked files are in, FixLinks makes the links "pathless" ... in other words, the links point to just the filenames, no path.

When PowerPoint 2007 finds pathless links to images and perhaps other files with spaces in the names, it loses the links. The links break. PowerPoint 2010 doesn't have this bug; neither do previous versions of PowerPoint ... just 2007.

One workaround is to rename your files and replace spaces with underscore ( _ ) characters before linking them.

A better solution is to let FixLinks do it for you. The 28 June, 2010 version will do this. This web page explains how you can enable the feature.

We discovered a bug in PowerPoint 2007 that affects linked images. When PowerPoint 2007 finds pathless links to files with spaces in the names, it fails to find the links. The links break.

FixLinks now has a fix for this bug. This page has a link to the following page, which explains the bug, the fix and your new options in more detail:

Why replace spaces with underscores?

Improvements to the way FixLinks collects and processes links and action settings. This speeds things up and does a more thorough job of finding links on all masters (and layouts) in PPT 2007 and 2010.

Improved accuracy of Links Report, specifically, link storage amounts:

- Now accounts for storage used by Built-in and Custom document properties

- Now accounts for the fact that PPT uses Unicode strings (which use more storage than we were accounting for previously)

Title of Locate Linked File dialog box now shows original path of file it's asking for.
