How do I edit the StarterSet configuration file (PPTools.INI)?

To change StarterSet's more obscure settings, you'll need to edit its configuration file.

StarterSet stores its settings (along with those of the other PPTools) in one file called PPTools.INI

PPTools.INI is stored in the folder you chose when you installed StarterSet. Unless you changed the default setting, this is C:\Program Files\RnR\PPToolsV2\

Here's how you edit this file:

How to edit PPTOOLS.INI

If you have the free PPTools Starter Set, just click "Edit the PPTools.INI File" to open PPTools.INI automatically. Otherwise:

  • Start Notepad
    • Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, click Notepad, or
    • Click Start, click Run, type "notepad" (without the quotes), then click OK
  • Open PPTools.INI
    • Choose File, Open from the main menu bar
    • Browse to your PPTools folder (the folder where you installed StarterSet; normally, that's C:\Program Files\RnR\PPToolsV2\
    • Type "PPTools.INI" (without the quotes) in the File Name text box
    • Press Enter or click Open

Now that you have PPTools.INI open in Notepad, you can edit it:

  • Locate the [StarterSet] section heading
  • Edit the line you want to change or, add a new line directly beneath the [StarterSet] line and type the new line you want to add
  • Choose File, Save from the main menu bar to save the file, then choose File, Exit to quit Notepad
